Case Study

Verdex uses Align as another source of intelligence alongside experience, references, interviews and investment diligence. It helped them move beyond instinct alone and develop a more structured view of how someone is wired, how they make decisions, how they interact with others and where they are most likely to perform at their best.

In Play

Investment Decisions:‍ ‍

In early-stage investing, the quality of the leadership team can matter as much as the technology or business model. Align helps me think more deeply about founders and CEOs: what is their natural operating style, how they may respond as complexity increases, and where complementary leadership may be required as the company grows.

Building the Verdex Team:

We have also used Align in selecting and managing our own people. It provides another lens for understanding fit, team dynamics and how individuals are likely to operate together. All of which is is incredibly important in a small team and in an environment where judgment, independence and collaboration all matter.

Portfolio Company Leadership:

With portfolio CEOs, the value extends beyond assessment. The profiles can create a productive starting point for conversations about leadership style, team composition, communication and development. Rather than trying to turn every CEO into the same archetype, it helps us understand the leader we actually have and how to build around their strengths.

The Real Gamechanger

What makes Align particularly useful is that it does not end with a profile. The AI layer allows me to interrogate the underlying behavioral data in the context of a real decision: evaluating a potential hire, considering the dynamics between two executives, preparing for a difficult conversation with a team member or portfolio CEO, or thinking about what kind of leader a company may need at its next stage. That makes it much more practical than an assessment that gets reviewed once and then filed away. It becomes an ongoing decision-support tool.

“In venture capital, you are ultimately making bets onpeople — founders, CEOs and your own team. Align gives me another lens to understand who is likely to thrive, where they may struggle, and how to put the right people around them.”
